Photography workshops in London
One-to-one photography tuition in London. I've spent years working out where the light lands in this city and at what time of year — which railings the sunrise clears, which bridges are worth the tripod, which spots everyone photographs and which ones they walk past. A session is as much about that as about the camera.
One-to-one Session
- Sunrise or sunset, whichever suits what you're after
- Your own camera — any make, any level
- Locations chosen for you beforehand, not improvised on the day
- Time to work a location properly rather than pass through it
- Blue hour into night, or night into dawn
- Notes to take away, and follow-up by email on your own edits
What we cover
Wherever you happen to be. If you're starting out: manual exposure and what the three controls actually trade against each other, using a tripod properly, and the composition principles that make the difference between a record of a place and a photograph of it.
If you're already comfortable: neutral density filters and how to read a scene for them, long exposures on water and cloud, manual exposure blending for scenes no single frame can hold, and focus stacking for foreground-to-horizon sharpness. All of it hand-technique — nothing generated, nothing invented.
When
Sessions run around sunrise or sunset, because that's when the city is worth photographing. Which one depends on what you want to shoot — the eastern skyline wants a sunset, the river at Westminster wants a dawn. We settle it when you book, and I'll tell you honestly if the season is wrong for what you have in mind and when to come back instead.
Practicalities
Bring your camera, a tripod if you own one (I can lend one otherwise), and warm clothes — standing still in the dark is colder than it sounds. No post-processing is included; these sessions are about what happens in the field. Two people can share a session for £60 on top, provided you're happy to shoot the same locations.
